THE INSPIRED TRIBE:

Meet Heidi

Meet Heidi, inspiring ball of energy and awesome member of Inspired Tribe.

Heidi radiates energy and positivity. While her physical stamina and endless energy for being active is enough to motivate anyone to get moving, it is her compassion and kindness that truly pushes those around her to be their best. Her wisdom shines through the light that surrounds her, and her humility makes her the person you just have to have around. Heidi’s presence inspires those around her, of all ages, to commit to loving themselves fully.

WHO IS HEIDI?
At 54 (almost!) years old, Heidi is a mom to 3 wonderful daughters. She works at McMaster University as a Recreation Program Coordinator, sharing her love of physical activity with countless people. On top of ensuring fabulous opportunities for others, Heidi is a fitness instructor teaching regular classes at the McMaster’s gym. Outside of work, Heidi loves being outside, spending time with friends and family, and meeting new people.

WHAT IS YOUR WILDEST GOAL?
A Half Ironman in September 2016… Although I have done 2 half marathons in the past, the running part is a struggle due to injuries. I am hoping good coaching will help me with that.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE?
My greatest challenge continues to be staying on task and putting time into things that are important to me. I need to focus on prioritizing, rather than getting caught up in a million distractions.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN LIFE IS OUT OF BALANCE?
I know life is out of balance when I start to feel unsettled and have a lack of focus. Sleep issues (or lack thereof) can crop up.

WHAT LESSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD?
That we are in charge of how we react to what happens in our lives. No matter how tough things get, there is always something to be thankful for. At the end of the day it’s important to keep in mind the idea that “I’m happier when I’m happy” so choose happy whenever you can.

Practicing mindfulness is something that has really helped me through the hard times to maintain a positive outlook.

DO YOU HAVE A DAILY ROUTINE TO TREAT YOUR MIND & BODY?
I think of it as more of a lifestyle that includes regular exercise. I often meet friends for a morning hike in the woods which kick starts my day, giving me exercise, friendship, and fresh air. During the day, I try to take a few minutes to focus on breathing and practicing gratitude, especially if I feel myself getting uptight about something.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO GET EXERCISE?
Anything that involves being outside, but hiking is high up on the list. I have been to some spectacular places with wonderful people.

TO ME, HAPPINESS IS having close ties with family and friends, caring about others and showing it, and knowing others care about me.

Heidi, thank you for sharing your energy with the world. It is your strength and commitment to being healthy throughout life that inspires us. Thank you for showing us that everything is possible if you are willing to commit, and for not only showing the benefits of loving yourself, but also helping us in our own journeys to self-love.
