THE INSPIRED TRIBE:
Meet Kate

Meet Kate, the first member of our Inspired Tribe.

While her fitness and sport pursuits are incredible, she has an unstoppable attitude and a beautiful heart to match it. She is a writer, entrepreneur, athlete, go-getter, fabulous female role model, and just all-around awesome. We can’t wait for you to get to know her!

KATE’S AWESOME HIGHLIGHTS:
As a former Women’s NCAA Division I Hockey player—named captain in her senior season—Kate loves sweaty pursuits. She has completed the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal, spent six weeks training at high altitude in Kenya, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, raced ten marathons and is a proud Guinness world record holder for distance run on a treadmill by twelve women over twelve hours.

Kate grew up on Lake of the Woods in Northwestern Ontario. She writes a blog, runs her own online coaching business for runners and spent a year traveling around the world (an undertaking that ultimately inspired many more adventures). She is committed to empowering girls through sport, with her truest passions being running, writing and traveling.

Kate has recently moved to Vancouver, British Columbia and writes for ivivva.

WHAT IS YOUR WILDEST GOAL?
There are a few. Get faster (run a sub 2:45 marathon), inspire more girls (through my work with ivivva, my coaching business and at an international level in the future), learn something new everyday (live in Paris…or even Africa), complete an ironman, go to Burning Man, spend time in Haiti working with girls, write (a book), love the people in my life deeply and live a full life (summit another mountain…run an ultra marathon).

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE?
Time. There is so much to write, to create, to read, to see and to do. I tend to get overwhelmed by all the opportunity and possibility in the world and time often influences how I fill my days. It’s a challenge to counteract the strict rules of time.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN LIFE IS OUT OF BALANCE?
When I haven’t picked up a book to read, or worse, talked to my parents for days and days and days.
WHAT LESSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD?
Busy is not a goal. Progress, knowledge, social change, self-improvement, a life built around interesting people—that is the ultimate goal. It is best to be courageous and patient. Be kind to yourself and to others.
DO YOU HAVE A DAILY ROUTINE TO TREAT YOUR MIND & BODY?
A run that clears my head. Listening to music. Smiling at strangers. Hugging Michael. Drinking water with lemon. Reading a good book.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO GET EXERCISE?
Running. It is truly the greatest gift.

TO ME, HAPPINESS IS...Exploring the world.
