Fall Reset: 5 Questions for Awe-Inspiring Change

Fall is just around the corner! This season is my favourite, not just because of the perfect latte weather, beautiful leaves, and the cute outfits that can be worn sans-sweat-dripping-down-the-face, but also because its represents a time of change and transformation. For the little ones, fall means back-to-school and fresh starts - new clothes, new friends, and new learning. But this beautiful opportunity for growth doesn't have to be just for the little ones! Fall is my favourite time to reflect on where I have been and where I want to go (even more so than New Years!).

If there's a habit you've been meaning to implement, a project you've been pushing off starting, or just generally wanting to improve your life, today's post is aimed to help you get started. The key to adding something new into your life is knowing WHY you want it, and reflecting on what it is bringing you even when times get tough. The questions below are aimed at getting you started, keeping you going, and helping you to remember why you began in the first place. A new version of you is just around the corner!

Note: I find going through these exercises for 5 minutes once a day helps to keep me on track. Perhaps try writing your responses in a journal to watch how they change as your grow! If every day doesn't work for you, try once a week - the routine will help you stay on track and moving toward the things you're dreaming of.

1. Close your eyes and picture yourself in the future. Where are you in 1 year? What about in 5 years?

  • Dream big and don't hold back. This vision isn't a place for limitations or reasons why you can't have it. What do you reaaaally want and what do you want your life to look like?

2. What can you do tomorrow to bring you closer to the one year vision of you?

  • Break down the one-year vision of you into small chunks. Nothing worth having comes easy or overnight - but it does come when we work every day to bring us closer. Create your baby steps. Day by day, this will bring you closer.

3. What scares you or stops you from getting to where you want to be?

  • For most people, fear is paralyzing. It is in our heads (occasionally showing up as that butterfly feeling in our stomach) and it controls what we want. Voicing what we are most afraid of can help us break through the stuck-ness. Identify the gremlin holding you back from kicking ass.

4. Break down your fear. What can you do this week that will make your fear less likely to come true or easier to manage?

  • Now that you know what is stopping you, how can we move through it? The truth is, for most of us, its probably never going to NOT be a fear. But if we learn to let it move us, rather than block us, we can accomplish pretty awesome things. If you don't think you can overcome your fear, what can you do to manage it? Meditation, writing, and sharing with others can all be helpful tools to keep the fear in check.

5. Think of yourself one year ago. What are you doing today that you couldn't do one year ago?

  • The greatest reminder of how much we can accomplish is our past successes. If you've been able to surprise yourself before, there is no doubt you'll be able to do it again. Stop and reflect, and give yourself a big, squishy gratitude hug for how awesome you are.
